Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub, OM, FRS

One of the world’s most celebrated cardiothoracic surgeons, Sir Magdi Yacoub pioneered heart and heart–lung transplantation in the United Kingdom, performing thousands of operations at Harefield Hospital and leading research at Imperial College London. He founded the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation and its Aswan Heart Centre, which gives free, world-class cardiac care and training in Egypt. He was knighted in 1992 and appointed to the Order of Merit in 2014.
